In most cases when they do I think it changes the direction of their music. I think when you see Desmond Child, Holly Knight and Diane Warren name you know you are going towards a more pop sound, as an example. What are your thoughts?

I know they did Dio, Frank Zappa and Michael Jackson. Abba did the avatar thing with much success recently. There is talk of Buddy Hiolly and Roy Orbison being done. There may be some new music associated with them. They will have concerts. Do you think this is a good idea to keep their music alive? Would you attend a show?

I think it's a pretty cool thing. At least you know that upfront, before going. Several bands have done it and I think it certainly gives the die hard fans something to get excited about.

Or is it the culture of going out that's changing?

I look at Creed for example. instead of continuing as Creed they replaced Scott Stapp and got Myles Kennedy and became Alter Bridge. Does it damage the bands legacy by continuing?

I'm not sure there is an appreciation of what it meant to have a great looking cover on band's album. Some thing that signify the band/artist or theme of the record, especially gatefold ones. I know they lost sone of their impact when CD's came out but with streaming services etc today, I'm not sure it really matters anymore. What do you think?

I do think it has taken the awe and mystique away from the rock stardom we all once had for them. Now I feel they have made them more common fare.
I also think it's sad that after they play their first show of the tour, we know what the stage looks like, what the setlist is. It used to be that you tried to guess what the setlist was, what the show would be like etc. All of that's gone. You can say you don't have to see it, but it pops up in your news feed. I miss the anticipation that used to go with going to the show.
What do you think?

Do you think it's a good thing when an artist re-records a classic album or songs with new versions?
In General Discussion
Some Examples;
Whitesnake redoing David Coverdale's Deep Purple tracks with the Purple Album.
Def Leppard -Drastic Symphonies
Roger Waters redoing Dark Side Of The Moon.
David Lee Roth releasing his take on Van Halen songs.
I personally struggle with this. I'm not always a fan and sometimes some tracks are ok I'm not talking about remasters or remixes, but actual remakes of the tracks. What about you?

In recent years we start to hear about things like Ace Frehley didn't play lead on Kiss's Sweet Pain, or that he was on the cover of Creatures Of The Night but didn't play on it. Various sources saying Nikki Sixx didn't play bass on most of the early Motley Crue albums or when producer Jack Douglas replaced Joe Perry and Brad Hamilton with Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on Get Your Wings? There are many more stories on this happening in the studio. Were you disappointed, didn't care. I found it interesting.

The phrase "Sex, Drugs And Rock N' Roll" continues to hold a certain level of cultural significance, I think it lost it's rebellious ways . angst and attitude. I do believe some of the up and comers have it but to me most haven't. It could be I'm getting older, but a lot of what I hear just doesn't seem like rock to me, but more of a cry for help. I don't here rebels, I don't hear how we are going to kick ass etc. What I seem to get is woe is me, my world is in trouble, why isn't anyone caring for me, etc. Some are political and that will always be there, I just feel something is missing. What about you?

Some examples are The Beatles Sgt. Pepper, Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and Pink Floyd's The Wall. An exception to me would be Kiss's Lick It Up album where the band unmasked themselves.

I think I tend to stay with the one that is the original band.

To me Wild Thing by the Troggs is just as good as Tom Sawyer by Rush. It shouldn't matter what it takes to play the song. If it's good to you that's all that should matter. Not looked down upon because it is simole to play.

I think in most cases it changes their direction and who they were initially. Many bands changed, I think of Aerosmith and Bon Jovi, etc. They kind of went towards a more pop sound versus their harder roots.

I tend to think hiring an outside producer is better. It's someone who can offer perspective the band may not have. I also think they should mix them up.

Does the music video enhance the song or ruin it? I am speaking to a new studio single by an artist.

In most cases, unless it's a performance of the song, I think it takes away from your imagination of what the song means.

I am not a fan of this. I prefer originals. My main concern is that their setlist will be taken over by several of them and denying me the songs that made them who they are in the first place. What do you think?

Unless it is one of my favorite artist or bands, I am being more selective. I'm going to the show that I really want and using some of the money of the ones I'm skipping to try and get a better seat. It's unfortuante, but that's where the industry is. I also, think that bands on their final tour., take away from the other bands coming around as well. Tough environment to be a fan or a band now.
