Saxon has a new album of covers coming out where they pay tribute those who influenced them titled “Inspirations”. I think that’s a great title for the record, perfect actually. It’s due out March 19th, you can pre-order it here. Thrown away. The third single from the album is their take on The Beatles Paperback Writer. I have to tell you when I heard this I was blown away. Seriously they do an outstanding job with the harmonies and how they made it their own with the pace and tone of the song. Biff Byford’s vocals really do the song justice and Nigel Glocker’s drumming took me by surprise, I think that’s what makes the song stand out. The band out did themselves on this one. This is now become my favorite cover of all time.
The video does a great job of taking the song literally and illustrated it with lyrics. If there was ever a song that was done to pay homage to a band or artist this is the level it should be executed at. Saxon really set the bar with this one. The Beatles should be proud of this. Check it out below.
