John 5 And The Creatures Release “Zoinks” Animated Video!

John 5 (Rob Zombie) And The Creatures have released a new single and video for the song Zoinks. The song is for the forthcoming album “Invasion” due out this year. First I’ll talk about the music then I will get into the video. I will admit right now, I’m not much of a instrumental music guy, not that I don’t appreciate the likes of a Joe Satriani or a Steve Vai, but a whole album version of it and I get usually get bored. I prefer them in bands for sone reason. But I like John 5 and I like this song, so maybe I can be swayed. The rest o the band or should I say the Creatures are Ian Ross on bass and Rodger Carter on drums. Zoinks has a nice riff and tone. I like the way it pulls you in and takes you on a journey. All three musicians are top notch, all have highlights and really make for a nice sound and jam. I really got into this one, unlike other instrumentals, this one kept me interested and I enjoyed it.
The video is a real treat. Lots of cameos and other surprises. First off the song title Zoinks is a reference to Scooby Doo, and the video is animated. The video has a story set in the world of horror fantasy. There a lot of cameos, some of you will recognize Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue), Susan Olsen (Brady Bunch), and Fred Coury (Cinderella), there are others. I also like how John 5 pays tribute to Ace Frehley (Kiss) as well. If you pay attention to his sidekick Dirty Chavez face features resemble Ace’s make up, even the blue on the eyes and the arch n the lips. Very cool. You will even see a tribute to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. An interesting thing is the animation used to tell the story is different from the graphics of the actual band, very cool. I’m sure there’s anime for it, but I can’t recall it. One thing for sure is, you will probably want your version of John 5’s animated guitar with all those functions. I hope you enjoy both the music and the video as much as I did. Hell I may even be a convert after this for instrumental albums. Check out the song below.
