Daughtry has plan to release a yet to be named album later this year, but in the meantime we get a new single Heavy Is The Crown. The song starts very low key and slow but builds to a much heavier tone. The instrument that stands out o me is the drums. Basically it makes the song for me. At first glance, you may think this is a religious song and it could be. It definitely has spiritual undertones. But I think it’s his view on his fame and dealing with it. Words like these should give you that perspective;
“See them march like lambs to the slaughter Toy soldiers line up on the altar I was never meant to drink that water They’ll remember me, when I’m underground”
This to me is Daughtry going on American Idol and rising to fame. His vocals reflect the emotion of it all. But it all ends well when he sings;
“Everything will fade away Well, the love that’s in this world is meant to stay”
You get the trials and tribulations of person rising up in fame and dealing with what goes with it and coming to peace with it all. You get a lyric video to go along with the song. You can check it out below.
