Billy Joel will be releasing a new box set “The Vinyl Collection, Vol. 1”. Due Out November 5th. You can pre-order it here. New York State of Mind is part of the box set. It is recorded Live in June of 1975,at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, California. The cool thing here is you get a version of the song before it appears on his 1976 “Turnstiles” album. When you listen to it, you get some ad libs and some word changes. Definitely worth a listen to see it before it gets polished. The only thing that’s missing her is performance footage. In any case, we get a masterpiece here in its infancy. I’ll take that as us being lucky to get this. Check it out below.
