I am of the school of thoughgt that I would prefer a band to do thier own music or a deep cut than a cover song. Obviously, there are exceptons, bands that don't have teh catalog to fill out a set yet and if a song teh band had released. An example would be Your Really Got Me by Van Halen. You expect to see that one live. Outside of that I'd rather have a track from the band.

Same. If a band released a cover song and it became a hit for them, that's fine (Ugly Kid Joe, "Cat's In The Cradle" for example). Or maybe paying homage to someone who passed, I get that. But otherwise, I would prefer to hear music from the band's own catalog. Heart is a great example. I absolutely love Heart and if you have never seen the Wilson sisters live or checked out their catalog, do it. But, I don't want to hear a Led Zeppelin mini-set at every Heart show. I get that they influenced you, but I paid to see YOU, not them. This especially applies to shorter sets or bands who don't tour much. But, it's their show and the artists can do what they want I guess.
